Welcome to Hickory!

Great news! We made t to Hickory and our hotel has free WiFi in the rooms! We left Charlotte just after 3:00 and barely managed to squeak by the Friday afternoon rush hour. Hickory isn't too far away since we live on the North end of Charlotte, so we rolled into town less than an hour and a half later.

After some down time in the hotel room, we headed to the race expo. The expo was pretty small, but everyone was SO nice! A lot of good luck's were said, a few sympathetic faces given to the newbies, and then I got a crash course from a native regarding the hills in this race.

The course is basically a figure eight pattern so we'll run down one road twice. The first loop has one hill and is about three and a half miles long. The second loop is suppose to be a killer- starting at about mile 7 there is a gradual uphill that last until.....mile 13.

Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh.... so I think I've got a new goal: finish feeling strong! Don't get discouraged by my pace! Start smart and slow, conserve energy, and look good at the finish.

As far as time is concerned? Come what may.

After the expo we headed to Union Square (the race start) which is the heart of downtown Hickory. It's a cute little area. Tonight happened to be the first night of their "Hickory Alive"- a summer Friday night festival with live bands and street food. We got take out from a local restaurant, Old Hickory Tap Room, and ate it at a shaded table with Little Paws.

After dinner we walked around the festivities for a bit. There were tons of people and a few other dogs, and zumba dancers.

After a quick stop at Starbucks for a little desert (and some coffee for tomorrow morning), it was back to the hotel to get everything ready for tomorrow.

In less than 12 hours, it will be all over but the crying! I don't know why I'm so nervous! Maybe it's because I've seen all the hilly streets of Hickory? Send me some good vibes tomorrow around 6:30 AM, ok? =)

Time to catch some zzzz's.....
